51: Overcoming Perfectionism

Being a recovering perfectionist myself, I know how perfectionism can hold you back in your business. This often comes up when talking about launching or starting your business, creating your first website, basically any time when you want to go to the  “next level”.

Here are some steps you can take to overcome perfectionism.

Have a Support Group

Fight your perfectionism by having group support. Having other people point out that what you are focusing on is not the most important thing will help you get unstuck from small details and focus on what really matters. 

Have a very simple plan.

Simplify your process, figure out what is the simplest way to do the thing. If it’s a flop see why it flopped and fix it next time; if it’s a success, figure out why it was a success and repeat it next time. Test it, tweak it and try again!

Don’t Compare Yourself

One other challenge that you might face when you are dealing with perfectionism is comparing yourself with others. One way to deal with it to focus on your own work and your own lane. This does come with time and experience, but be aware of this from the beginning and follow your own path. 

Break Down Your Plan

Sometimes, your end goal can feel a bit overwhelming. One way to avoid this is to break down your vision into a plan. Use that plan to do a small thing each day that is doable, achievable and that helps you move in the right direction. This way you will not get overwhelmed with the big picture that might seem out of your reach from time to time.  

If used right, your perfectionism can be your straight. It can help you write quality copies, create a quality product, put out quality content.

So, use it as your strength and don’t let it get in your way.
