58: Confidence and Competence for Growth with Gulce Onganer
When it comes to building your business, unless you are lucky enough that your business runs purely on referrals, you need marketing. When you think about marketing, there are only three options: writing, video, audio. That’s it.
So, what to choose? Whatever works for you. Find what actually aligns with your strengths and your personality, what you enjoy doing, and it’s going to make your life so much easier.
Competence brings confidence
No, you don’t have to be perfect at it and have everything in order to start. But you have to start to eventually be able to get to that point. A lot of people get overwhelmed by the tech and information, but it’s really just about working with why you have. Don’t overthink it and just get started. Don’t think about all the fancy microphones, cameras, software; just go with what you have right there, right now. Competence brings confidence.
The same rule applies across your business. Ask yourself: what are the activities I’m doing right now that are genuinely giving me joy while they’re bringing me towards this vision that I have for myself.
Test it, tweak it, and try again
We have this tendency of wanting to get to the goal faster, but you need to learn as you go along and you need to carve your own path. The Micro-Launch Method is so much about experimentation. Yes, it’s the framework and you get: here’s what to do, and here’s the potential timeline you can use and so on; but you still need to align it to yourself. Test it, tweak it and try again. It’s not about creating the perfect offer or reinventing the wheel, it’s just about tweaking things and making them better each time. I’m a big fan of always debriefing after any project, looking at: what went well, what can we do again, what didn’t go that well, why not, do we need to get rid of it or improve it and what just needs to be adjusted. So, it’s always a learning process.
Improving your visibility
The Micro-Launch Method also works great on improving your visibility. Your first micro launch is almost like part of your breadcrumbing and your pre-launch for the next micro launch and then that just builds momentum. That way you’re basically getting residual results from even the first time you ever launched something because you’ve definitely upped your visibility and people know you’re offering something and they start to associate you with something, and then from there it just builds up.
