5: Carrie Green: Creating A Success Mindset

Carrie Green of the Female Entrepreneur Association (FEA) and I discuss her worst launch ever and the importance of mindset for business success.

My jaw literally dropped multiple times through this conversation as Carrie walked me through her worst launch ever and the multiple reasons that happened and the multiple things she and her team had to do afterwards. It’s really, really insightful and for me, it was a huge eye opener, so I hope it’s the same for you.

Carrie Green is one of my dearest mentors. She is an award-winning entrepreneur, the founder of the Female Entrepreneur Association and the author of the international bestselling book “She Means Business”, which is brilliant, fun, insightful and amazing. Her TEDx talk on reprogramming your mind for success has had over 7.1 million views. And she is as sweet in person as she appears.
It’s hard to turn an idea into reality. For Carrie, the biggest problem was getting overwhelmed. Feeling that she needs to do something, but simply not knowing how to do it. And she’d be looking at the whole picture, rather than breaking it down and doing step one. She would get so overwhelmed by this vision of something that she needs to do that she just couldn’t make a move on it. In the end, her tipping point was when the fear of not ever doing it terrified her more than actually doing it.

Carrie feels that the problem is that most people quit before they start seeing progress. They are in their own heads; they have these worries and doubts and they’re not making progress within a year or three. Most people think maybe it’s never going to work and I should just quit while I’m ahead. But you need to acknowledge the situation and what you are going through, and realize that it just takes time. It took her 11 years to become an “overnight” success. You can’t skip the learning bit, you have to be out, you have to have the courage and the tenacity to walk through it and to experience it.

“I switched my mindset and it shifted  from ‘I want to make a million’ to do ‘Do something that helps people, and that makes positive impact, and inspires people’ and it lights me up.And it feels good and i just want to give, give and give, and i wasn’t thinking about the money.“

– Carrie Green

Her biggest mindset shifts that she had that really transformed everything for her was going from “I want to make a million in 365 days” to “I just want to do something that helps people; that makes a positive impact; that inspires people and it lights me up”. Carrie believes that the more you show up and serve other people, the more you actually can create success for yourself.

This year Carrie had her worst launch ever. She says that the reason for that was that she wasn’t showing up for her audience. She became a new mom, she had not been doing the marketing stuff at all, and she hadn’t really been showing up for her audience. She realized that no matter how successful you are, if you stop engaging with your audience, you’ve got nothing. It also kind of made her go back to the drawing board and investigate what’s really happened here and why this has gone so wrong, but also how to get back in alignment with what her audience wants. You really have to listen and tune into your audience and what they’re saying and act accordingly based off of that.

The power of building an audience, building a community is that we’re doing it for them, we’re here to serve them. So why not actually co-create with them. When we do that it is powerful as well, because then not only do they share amazing ideas with us, but they feel like they’ve helped you create it, so they want to take the next step and be part of it.

An action step for our listeners: create your dream jar. Sit down, get a piece of paper and start thinking about your life and the dreams, goals and things that you would love to make happen. Write them down on small pieces of paper, fold them up and put them in your dream jar. Zoom out of life, get out of the day to day and just look at the bigger picture of life.

And if you have a business bestie who needs to see this message, go share this with them.

Love + magic,

Maggie
