38: Danetha Doe: Money Blocks and Money Love Languages
Today I’m super excited to be speaking with Danetha Doe. Danetha is the creator of Money and Mimosas and she calls herself a money, sex and power educator. Money and mimosas is her little magical corner of the internet where she talks about financial education, primarily for women. It started as a small weekly newsletter that she would send out and now it’s grown to having readers in over 50 countries. Their mission is to elevate the self-worth and net worth of women. They talk a lot about the mindset, the emotional side, the psychological side, the behavioral economics of money, as well as the tactical elements of how do you save, how do you invest and all of those aspects that we all need to know about. She believes that in order to be able to make a difference with your money, you have to feel confident in your ability to be able to do that, confident in your skills.
Worthiness is a key component of having a healthy relationship with anything in life. And the way we choose to spend money or choose not to spend money is an indicator of how worthy we feel of these experiences within life.
There’s a couple of assumptions that we have to make here. Assumption one is: money is energy. Assumption two is: the decisions you make or don’t make around money impact you energetically, psychologically, spiritually in a lot of different elements that are beyond your bank account. Now that we have those two assumptions, how you bring consciousness or choose not to bring consciousness will have an impact. Bringing consciousness to money can shift the way you perceive how money works within the world, and also the impact that money can have on your life.
When it comes to money there are five money love languages, and they all relate to a core desire and a childhood wound, that determines your money love language. When you bring consciousness to money, you can actually start to heal those wounds. Because money is energy, it has the same vibration as love. And when you bring consciousness and intention, you can really start to shift things within you, start to heal wounds that you may or may not be aware of and that all requires consciousness. Conscious spending is that practice and it can be as simple as taking five breaths before making a purchase.

“Our mission is to elevate the self-worth and net worth of women. We are very clear that in order to be able to make a difference with your money, you have to feel confident in your abilities and skills.”

One of the biggest ways to elevate your financial well-being is financial confidence. There are three aspects to your relationship with money. Let’s connect this to fitness- let’s say your fitness goal is to run a marathon. What do you have to do to reach that goal? You have to exercise, you have to look at your nutrition and then you also have to have the willpower. You can have all the information about what exercises to do, you can have all the information about what foods to eat, but then you actually have to do it. So, willpower is the aspect of doing it but also, it’s the will to listen, because sometimes you need to give your body a break; willpower is listening to your internal compass in order to make the decisions that make sense for your own situation. Let’s apply that now to finances, same concept; three areas. First, we’ve got the exercise portion-so the actions that you take, that’s your financial well-being. Next, we’ve got nutrition-just like you’ve got to fuel your body with wholesome foods, you’ve got to fuel your mind with rich thoughts, that’s your mindset. Finally, we’ve got your financial confidence- this is the willpower, this is the connection to your internal compass, your inner power, your inner knowing. And the reason why this is where most people need to spend more time is because nobody is going to care more about your money than you and you need to be clear on what it means for you to be in alignment with money. What does it mean for you to know what risks to take what risk not to take?
Entrepreneurship is, from Danetha’s perspective, the ticket to financial freedom. She believes everyone can think like an entrepreneur, everyone can think like a freelancer. It doesn’t mean you have to have a full-time business; it can mean that you work for a company full time and have a couple of side hustles. But the mindset of being an entrepreneur has to be a part of anyone’s journey if they want to experience financial freedom. Where you put your energy matters; where you put your money, which is energy, matters. And when we start thinking like an entrepreneur, thinking like a freelancer, we start to clearly see how energy works when it comes to money. So, would you rather put your energy towards restriction, i.e. saving money or do you want to put your energy towards expansion, i.e. increasing your revenue and profit margin? Expansion is the path to financial freedom.
An action step for our listeners: define what success means to you. What does it feel like in your body? What does success look like? What does it feel like for you?
